Hourly paid teachers

At the adult education institute, there are over 350 teachers. This page contains information for them. If you're not currently teaching at the adult education institute but would be interested in doing so, you'll find information below whom to contact.

On this page, you'll find essential information about issues that teachers need to handle and be aware of. More detailed instructions, news, etc., can be found in Vantra, where you can log in with the eduvantaa credentials provided by the institute.

New teachers

We are always interested in new course ideas and teachers. If you want to send a job application to the adult education institute, you can send it directly to the coordinating teacher (suunnittelijaopettaja) responsible for the subject area your course would fit into. If you're unsure whom to contact, send it to aikuisopisto@vantaa.fi.

Information for hourly paid teachers

Employment

  • Provide your academic degree certificate to your coordinating teacher. It is needed to determine your salary. Without certificates, you will receive the lowest salary. If you have a foreign degree, it needs to be recognized in Finland.
  • Create an account on Ilmonet. You can use the same credentials to log in to Kursor (more info below). You won't be able to sign the employment contract unless you have Kursor credentials.
  • Employment contracts are signed electronically. A signature link will be sent to your email.
  • Add your bank account number in My info in Kursor.
  • Starting from January 2025 there is no longer need to provide your tax card to the payroll office. The town of Vantaa gets the taxation information directly from the tax authority.

Kursor

On Kursor the teacher:

  • Marks attendance and makes diary entries after each teaching session.
  • Submits travel expense reports.
  • Can send messages to students, e.g., Teams/Zoom links for online courses.

Create an account in KURSOR system at Ilmonet. (Ilmonet is just the customer interface of the same system.)

  1. Go to the Login page.
  2. Log in to Ilmonet with your online banking credentials.
  3. Enter your Username and Password in My account My Information and save the details.

Go to www.kursor.fi/Kursor (note the uppercase K) and log in with the credentials you used on Ilmonet.

  • If you already have Ilmonet credentials as a student, you can use those to log into Kursor.
  • If you already have Kursor credentials for another Ilmonet institute, you can use those for Vantaan Aikuisopisto too.

Copying handouts and the Classroom Computer

To use the copying machine and classroom computer, you need eduvantaa credentials provided by the City of Vantaa. More information is available further down.

Temporary substitutes usually don't get eduvantaa credentials. The caretaker assists substitutes with copying and provides temporary credentials for accessing the eduvantaa network, which allows you to open the classroom computer.

Teacher's tasks

  • Preparation and teaching of your own classes.
  • Attendance records and diary in Kursor.
  • Taking care of the premises - before you leave the room wipe the board, turn of the computer and other equipment, put everything in order, leave the space tidy, and lock the door.
  • Especially on courses with potential hazards, inform students at the beginning of the course that the institute does not insure students, and ensure that occupational safety is maintained.
  • Always remember that you represent the employer (i.e., the City of Vantaa and Vantaa Adult Education Institute) to the students.

Eduvantaa

Temporary substitutes usually don't get their own eduvantaa credentials. The instructions below do not apply to temporary substitutes.

  • You have received (or will receive) eduvantaa credentials to the email address you have given to the institute.
  • If you can't find the credentials or encounter other issues, call ServiceDesk at 0983922735 (available 24/7).
  • Use eduvantaa credentials to log in to the classroom computer, copying machine, eduvantaa email, Teams, and other tools provided by the institute (except Kursor!).
  • Speed up copying by registering a contactless card (e.g., Travel card) with your eduvantaa credentials. The coordinating teacher or caretaker can assist you.
  • Online, you can log in to Microsoft Office365 with your Eduvantaa credentials.
  • You can also log in to Google with eduvantaa credentials and use Google Education tools. (Remember that our students don't have an eduvantaa account!)
  • Eduvantaa credentials also allow you to log in to Vantra, the Adult Education Institute's intranet, where you can find more information about the institute, employment, and advice for online teaching (in Finnish). With the same login, you can access the city's intranet, Virkku, and see all matters related to city personnel.

What to do when You fall ill?

If you fall ill, the most important thing is to inform the students of the class as early as possible, but you do not need to do this yourself! Try to contact your coordinating teacher on weekdays between 8 am and 3 pm. If you can't get hold of them quickly (they can be busy with teaching, in a meeting, etc.), contact the study secretary. If you can't reach them either,

  • Contact customer service at 0983924342 (Mon-Thu 12–15, Fri 12–14).
  • Contact Education Manager:
    • Adult education centre at 0400417635,
    • Immigrant Education at 0401859870.

The Institute will inform the students by text message.

Course Start

The course starts when it has the minimum number of enrolled participants. The minimum participant number is defined for each course and the employment contract comes into force separately for each course. If the minimum number of students is not reached, and the course is cancelled, the employment contract is not valid for that course and its teaching sessions.

Hourly paid teachers have the right to know if a course will start two weeks before the course is supposed to begin. If the minimum number of students is not met two weeks before the start date, with the teacher’s permission, we can wait for possible additional enrolments for a period of time agreed upon with the coordinating teacher. However, the course cancellation must be made at least 5 days before the course start date.

Institute's Premises

Adult education institute courses take mainly place in the institute's own premises (Opistotalo, Taidekeskus and Myyrinki) and in Vantaa city schools and daycare facilities.

  • Vantaan opistotalo, Lummetie 5, 01300 Vantaa
  • Aikuisopiston taidekeskus, Lummetie 4, 01300 Vantaa
  • Kultarikontie, Kultarikontie 1, 2. floor  (K-Supermarket Yliveto house)
  • Myyrinki (Liesitori 1), entrance address: Vaskivuorentie 10 B, 3rd floor (Iso-Myyri Shopping Center), 01600 Vantaa
    • When arriving from Liesikuja, take the escalator to the 2nd floor, go to the opposite end of the floor (look for the adult education institute sign on the ceiling), through glass doors to the staircase, and to the 3rd floor.
    • When arriving from Vaskivuorentie, use the sliding doors to the elevator or stairs to the 3rd floor.

Schools and Other Teaching Premises

The teaching place of the course and its address are on Ilmonet under the course details. On the first teaching session, allocate time to find the teaching premises, parking, and the classroom. For example, schools may have multiple entrances, but only one may be open in the evening. The evening caretaker at the teaching premises opens the classroom door. The evening caretaker’s phone number is usually available somewhere near the caretaker’s room or on the school's website.
